Tom Goh of H-Energy TQ and Podium at 2010 Edam Open Challenge Round 3 (July 4, 2010)

Round 3 of the Edam Open Challenge took place on July 4, 2010 at the Just Hobby Race Circuit. It was a cloudy, wet morning when we reached the track at 0800hrs; the track was wet and it was still drizzling. At about 1000hrs the weather cleared and the bright sunshine began to dry the track quickly. Total were 22 participants at the event.

Qualifying:

The first round of qualifying started at 1200hrs noon . Traction was not good because the track was not completely dry. Team XRAY driver Tom Goh place 4th on the grid for round 1. By the 2nd round – after some setup changes – there was improvement from most of the XRAY drivers: Tom Goh moved up to 2nd and fellow XRAY driver Shafiq was up to 3rd. By the last round of qualifying, Tom Goh managed to up the pace and snatch the TQ from Nelson Lee by only 0.15sec. It was really close!

Final

In the 45 minute A-main final, Tom and Nelson had a good start and were pulling away from the pack to open up a comfortable lead. It was a close battle between Tom and Nelson, and a slight mistake by Tom dropped him to 2nd.

Shafiq also up the pace into 3rd position but some mistakes in the latter part of race drop him to 7th. New XRAY driver Frendy Tay is making good progress with consistent lap times, and that moved him up to 3rd. Joseph was also doing great and he moved up from 9th to 6th. Don Chng had some issues with his manifold which dropped him from 4th to 7th.

The race ended with Nelson taking the win, Tom finished 2nd and Frendy finished 3rd. It’s a great race for Team XRAY drivers with 2 XRAYs on the podium and 5 XRAY cars in the Top 10.
