Double Asia Champion! Team Singapore's P.Y.Tang and Leonard Sim wins at Tamiya Asia Cup Finals 2012 in Seoul (July 13, 2012)

Team Singapore's P.Y.Tang (4WD GT) and Leonard Sim (M-Chassis) was crowned Asia Champion at the 2012 Tamiya Asia Cup Finals held at the Coex Exhibition Hall in Seoul, Korea in conjunction with the Seoul Auto Car Salon Exhibition. Top qualifying drivers from Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China arrived in host country Korea to compete in Junior Buggy Fighter, Super Stock, M-Chassis, FF03, F1 and 4WD GT class. The event started on Friday July 13, 2012 with 4 practise and 2 control practise sessions. Saturday had 4 qualifying rounds and the 1 last qualifying on Sunday before the Finals. P.Y.Tang and Leonard Sim dominated the qualifying rounds TQing all the rounds.

P.Y.Tang stated that his Tamiya TA06Pro felt very easy to drive and is one of his best setup ever. He added that his TA06Pro had a very good pace the whole weekend setting a blistering fastest lap at 11.596sec with the help of Acorn Tyre Essence and Nasa Mighty Gripper V2 and V3. Although he has been setting the pace throughout, P.Y.Tang told us that he had to keep focus and concentration has to be in the maximum whereby anything can happen in the Finals. P.Y.Tang hoped that he can bring this fastest lap experience to Japan at the Tamiya World Championships which uses fastest lap for the qualifyings.

Leonard Sim found some very good setups in his Tamiya M05Pro during practise which he managed to maintain that to TQ spot. He then cruised in for the win for Final A1 and A2 in the M-Chassis class to check out for the overall win and the ticket to Japan. This was Leonard Sim seventh time in the Tamiya Asia Cup Finals which he was very happy to finally able to get the ticket.

Even though P.Y.Tang was dominating the qualifying rounds and he took an easy win in Final A1, he definitely gave the crowd something to think about when he failed to win Final A2 after a contact with a backmarker on the long straight. With the excitement building up while P.Y.Tang tried multiple maneuvours to take back the lead from the closest Korean contender, he ended up stuck at a corner marker and finished 2nd in Final A2. AIn the last race of the day, P.Y.Tang managed to kept his cool and avoiding traffics, to take the Final A3 and became the 4WD GT Asia Champion 2012. This was P.Y.'s 5th tries in the event.
