H-Energy and Orca TQ and win at Bintang Megamall EP Touring Competition (November 28, 2010)

Wirawan Hamidoon (left)

Wirawan Hamidoon from Brunei driving for H-Energy recently attended the Bintang Megamall EP Touring Competition in Miri, Malaysia. Wirawan Hamidoon TQ and winning the 1:10 EP Touring Class. The event was an exhibition race held in a shopping mall with a small and technical carpet track at the heart of the mall. About 40 drivers in the region registered for the 1:10 EP Touring and 1:10 EP Drifting Class. Touring car drivers had a hell of a time trying to maneuvour their overpowered car around the sub 5 second track, doing a whopping 56 laps in 5 minutes.

Wirawan Hamidoon stated that no turbo ESC is needed in this small track layout as the H-Energy 5500 50C High Performance LiPo and the Orca RX2 11.5T Professional Brushless Motor gave plenty of power in his Sakura Zero. Congratulations to Wirawan Hamidoon for the win for H-Energy and Orca.

Orca RX-2 5.5T Brushless Motor First Test @ ARC Speedway Singapore

The new Orca RX2 5.5T Brushless Motor was tested today at the ARC Speedway Singapore on P.Y.Tang Xray T3. The RX2 is the newest range of Brushless Motors from Orca product line featuring 4.5T to 17.5T, which is designed and developed with a simple thought to look for more speed and performance. The RX2 5.5T was tested with turbo boost on the Orca Vritra TC Pro-Spec ESC immediately bringing down the laptimes. The Xray was very easy to drive in the in-field like a regular high torque 5.5T but on the long straights, it was much faster than a 4.5T motor without turbo boost. After 5 minute of testing, the Vritra ESC was temp at 50degC and the RX-2 Motor was barely reaching 60 DegC, with a fan on the motor. The RX2 is a easy-to-maintain motor and easy-access to the ball bearings for regular maintenance made it easier. P.Y.Tang added that the Orca engineers did a fantastic job in developing this ESC and motor combination providing cool and efficient power, which he thinks will be the next generation in modified racing, and many end-user will need to worry less about high temperature burnout or thermal cut. A quality sealed RX-2 also comes with two motor screws, high quality sensor cable and or course, the Orca logo stickers. As the testing was disrupted by rainstorm, we can't wait for another day of testing to try different setup of the turbo settings to suit different layout, and also the new RX-2 6.5T and 7.5T Brushless Motor.

Orca Vritra TC Pro-Spec ESC Settings*:
Final Drive Ratio: 7.6-7.9
Timing: 12
Turbo Delay: Off or 0.05
Turbo Timing: 36
Turbo Interval: 2 or 3
PWM: 32K
Drag Brake: 1%
Brake Freq: 1KHz

*settings may not be suitable for other brand of motor.

Orca TQ and win at the Trust Hobby Racing Xray Malaysia Cup Series 4 (November 21, 2010)

P.Y.Tang TQ and took the win for Team Orca and Team Xray in the Modified Class at the Trust Hobby Racing Xray Malaysia Cup Series 4. The finals did not take place as rainstorm washed out yet another race this month.

This time the race was ran in an anti-clockwise direction which is fairly tough as the original track layout was designed to be in the clockwise direction. As the traction was generally low in the morning, tire choice and treatment as well as having a good setup was crucial. P.Y.Tang has been testing his new powerplant combination of Orca Vritra TC Pro-Spec ESC and 6.5T motor with turbo boost on, which he ran an accident-free run on Heat 2 and saw him took the first 24 laps. P.Y. added that this combination is very easy to drive in the in-field and much faster than most modified motors on the long straight. This setting will be much more advantageous in a bigger track which requires the extra speed.

Orca and Xray podium for the Modified Class at Racecraft Infinity On-Road Challenge 2010-2011 Series 2 (November 14, 2010)

Racecraft Infinity On-Road Challenge 2010-2011 Series 2 was held on November 14, 2010 at the Racecraft Race Complex Singapore. P.Y.Tang from Xray and Orca finished 3rd overall in the Modified Class as the race ended by qualifying results due to heavy rainstorm pouring down just before the Final A-Main.

It has been a few months since P.Y.Tang raced at this track, and the new tests on a 6.5T with turbo boost on his Xray T3 needed a bit more fine-tweaking. P.Y. could only tried more experiment during the race as practise session on Saturday was disrupted by rainstorm as well. He stated that his Xray T3 could have done better as his car was handling better and better after each round and managed to get his laptime down to 14.3s. He added that he blew Q3 when he rolled twice and with blocked traffic, it was his better run to qualify 3rd. In order to get a more consistent run during the final, the turbo boost settings on his Orca Vritra were lowered as the car was just too fast for this medium size track. With a few more changes to the roll center and tire treatment, P.Y.Tang Xray T3 felt much better during the practise lap on the A-Main, but unfortunately rain started pouring down with the finals cancelled. P.Y.Tang believes that the 6.5T turbo boost will be a very competitive setup to beat once the setup is more mature.

Top 10 Qualifying Standings A-Main (Modified Class)
1. Alvin Koh - 21 laps 5:04.081
2. Nicholas Lee - 21 laps 5:07.074
